Antique Royal Doulton Dinner Plate 1900 Gibson Girl Vintage Porcelain Ceramic. This has All the bells and whistles--not only Blue and White BUT a Gibson Girl too! Made in 1900 and is stamped, Signed, and Numbered. 1st the blue Royal Doulton stamp, (2) below it a stamp in the clay itself of #s, and (3rd) an enbedded in the clay stamp in a circle seen in photo 12. Featuring the illustration of the famous Victorian artist, Charles Dana Gibson. Made in Lambeth England by Royal Doulton, for Life Publishing. "The Widow and Her Friends" is the name of this particular plate. " SHE HAS REMAINED IN RETIREMENT TOO LONG, OTHERS ARE SURPRISED THAT SHE IS ABOUT SO SOON ". Many of these are crazed BUT not this one! It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, or stains. Light surface scratches commensurate with age seen only in glare, no damage. There are manufacturing "dots" from the painting of the plate as seen in the photos both front and back. Charles Dana Gibson was an eminent American illustrator, produced a series of 24 drawings entitled. The Royal Doulton Works at Lambeth, England, reproduced the drawings on plates. The Gibson Girl was the personification of the feminine ideal of physical attractiveness as portrayed by the pen-and-ink illustrations of artist Charles Dana Gibson during a 20-year period that spanned the late 19th and early 20th century in the United States and Canada. The artist saw his creation as representing the composite of thousands of American girls The Gibson Girl image that appeared in the 1890s combined elements of older American images of contemporary female beauty.
